Successful Completion of Island Disaster Management Plan in V Atoll Keyodhoo and Fulidhoo


Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) training program closing ceremony was held today, 12th August 2016 at V keyodhoo and V Fulidhoo.

The chief guest of the function was Minister of Defence and National Security, Honorable Adam Shareef Umar. Also present was the Deputy Minister for Ministry of Defence and National Security Ms Fatimath Thasneem, MNDF Male’ Area commander Mr Abdul Rauf, Island council members, participants and the facilitators of the program.

The training program included sessions on how to conduct vulnerability, capacity and hazard assessment of the island. Identification of potential hazards in the community, develop local emergency plans, evacuation routes, roles and responsibilities of government agencies in assessing and reducing risks, issuing early warnings and planning for response. Also participants are provided with basic first aid training and aquatic exercise classes.

Development of Island Disaster Management training program was conducted at V Keyodhoo from 31st July to 4th August and  V Fulidhoo from 7th to 11th August, supported by NDMC and MNDF Male’ Area in collaboration with Island council and community.

The certificates of completion were handed out by Minister of Defence and National Security, Honorable Adam Shareef Umar to the participants and MNDF Male’ Area commander Mr Abdul Rauf handed over the certificates to the MNDF facilitators who conducted the program.

Defence Minister, thanked the island council and community for their support and commitment and appreciated the efforts of the instructors. He remarked, “It was an important step for capacity building”
