Minister of Defense and National Security, Honorable Adam Shareef Umar along with Bank of Maldives Retail Banking Director, Mr Mohamed Shareef has launched the Disaster Relief Loan Scheme on 24 July 2016 (Sunday) at Sea Tracs Building.
The Maldives Meteorological Services has forecast torrential rain, thunderstorms with gust of winds 40 mph across islands of GA and Addu City. The islands of GA Atoll and Wards of Addu City should immediately take preparedness actions to minimize losses caused by a possible flooding event.
The Maldives Meteorological Services had forecast that tidal waves during high tide may cause flooding across the central and southern atolls of the Maldives in the next two days. The tidal waves are caused due to elevated ocean waves in the Indian Ocean.
Development of island disaster management plan are underway in Laamu Atoll Dhanbidhoo from 16-21 July 2016.
A public advisory for strong winds have been issue has been issued by the National Disaster Management Centre. The advisory is active until 18:00 hrs.
