
NDMC and MRC Sign Memorandum of Understanding
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Natioanal Disaster Management Center (NDMC) and Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) took place on the 22nd December 2016 in the Ministry of Environment and Energy Auditorium.
Mandated as the lead Agency in Maldives for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Emergency Preparedness and response NDMC plays a vital role in National level disaster management coordination and regulation. Formed by the Maldivian Red Crescent Act 7/2009, MRC is an auxiliary to public authorities and continues to have close collaboration with NDMC. Speaking at today’s ceremony Secretary General of MRC, Ms. Aishath Noora highlighted on the importance of the mutual collaboration between the two organization in the areas of institutional cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Ministry of Defence and National Security, Ms. Fathimath Thasneem explained further that the MOU will strengthen mutual support for capacity building, technological development, and training tools for disaster preparedness, response, and rehabilitation.
The MoU will enhance the decision making by those responsible for the political and technical levels, related to disaster risk management.
This partnership is a result of working together closely to define shared purpose and mutual commitment, and the document formalizes a long-term arrangement that will advance disaster risk reduction practices.
