
Formulation of National Disaster Management Plan In Maldives
Stakeholder consultation workshop to formulate the National Disaster Management Plan took place at Bandos Island Resort from 20th to 21st December 2016.
The two day workshop focuses on formulating a 5 year plan of action in determining the projects and programs that need to be carried out in order to achieve the required milestones in the field of disaster response, risk reduction and mitigation. Policy level representatives from various government institutions attended and gave profound contribution on ways to harmonize the roles played by the organizations in times of disasters.
The formulated National Disaster Management Plan cover all phases of disaster management, Prevention, Mitigation, Response and Recovery by providing horizontal and vertical integration among all the stakeholders.
Deputy Minister for Ministry of Defence and National Security, Ms. Fathmath Thasmeen at the opening ceremony of the workshop highlighted on the importance of establishing guidelines and implementing these guidelines are the most important steps in managing disasters and to be prepared for such disasters and to provide suitable aid for the public.
National Disaster Management Plan will be drafted and implemented during next year. The first plan was compiled in 2005 after the 2004 Tsunami.
